    Filenames and Purposes
In the discussion below, system directory means the SYSTEM32 directory on Windows (usually C:\winnt\system32), or the SYSTEM directory on Win95/Win98 (usually C:\windows\system). Server means Domain Time II Server. Full Client means Domain Time II Full Client. Thin Client means Domain Time II Thin Client. Client by itself means either Full or Thin Client.

All distribution files are copied to the Program Files\Domain Time II directory when the management tools are installed. The Domain Time II Manager program and the Domain Time II Update Server use the files in this directory to perform remote control, updates, and other tasks. Otherwise, files are installed only as noted for each file.

    • setup.exe
Bootstrap setup program. Exists in the root directory on CD-ROM distributions and some ZIP distributions. Its function is to determine the correct operating system (i386 or x64 in most cases) and run the corresponding setup.exe for that system. The bootstrap setup program also displays the license agreement, any read-me files, or other text files.

    • setup.exe
Main setup program. Copied to the Program Files\Domain Time II directory if management tools are installed; otherwise runs from its current location when you double-click it. Run this program to install Server, Full Client, Thin Client, Ultra Thin Client, DTSet, or the management tools.

    • dtserver.exe/

    Licensing Considerations

    • Client Licensing
A license for Client covers the use of any type of Client on one machine. This includes Full Client, Thin Client, Ultra Thin Client, the DTSet command-line utility, the UNIX or Linux Domain Time II Daemon programs, or the Windows for Workgroups domtimew program. For each machine where you run any of these programs, you need a client license.

    • Server Licensing
A license for Server covers the use of Server on one machine. You need one Server license for each machine where Domain Time II Server is installed.

    • Audit Server Licensing
You need one license for Domain Time II Audit Server per machine where Audit Server is running. There is not a separate auditing fee for each machine being audited; the license is for running Audit Server itself.

    • Manager Licensing
A license for Manager covers the use of all management tools. You need one Manager license for each machine where Domain Time II Manager is installed. The Manager license includes Domain Time II Monitor (formerly sold separately), the command-line and graphical test utilities, and Domain Time II Update Server (a new component). The Manager license does not include a license to run Domain Time II Audit Server.

    Standard Distribution Packages

    • Evaluation Distribtion
The evaluation distribution (dt41eval.zip) includes evaluation versions of all Domain Time II components and utilities.

    • Server Distribution
A Server-only distribution (dt41ser.zip) includes files necessary for installing and running Domain Time II Server.

    • Client Distribution
A Client-only distribution (dt41cli.zip) includes files necessary for installing and running either Domain Time II Full Client, Domain Time II Thin Client, Domain Time II Ultra Thin Client, or DTSet. Clients for other platforms are distributed separately.

    • Manager Distribution
A Manager distribution (dt41man.zip) includes all management tools, plus Server, Full Client, Thin Client, Ultra Thin Client, and DTSet.
